WABI-SABI

Escaped to Japan with my girls for a few weeks to pursue Wabi-Sabi – the Japanese philosophy for living a perfectly imperfect life. Home life is full of hurt at the moment and my deepest practice right now is to not let pain close me up, but rather open and grow me. ‘Wabi’is defined as ‘rustic simplicity’with a focus on a less-is-more. ‘Sabi’is translated to ‘taking pleasure in the imperfect.’A beautiful experience of this is the art of kintsugi. Yesterday an artist showed us a cracked bowl, then filled this bowl with gold dusted lacquer as a way to showcase the beauty of its age and damage rather than hiding it. My goal this week is in finding beauty in things just as they are. No more–no less.
